Anyone here interested in Spearweasels mini war idea?
I'm sure we coudl get rhoadd vs bryngwlad, to figt over the disputed folks who are members of both
groups and the disput coudl eb over who owes them the duties of washign thier dirty clothes or something(something they take care of already) or who has the right to harvest their hay(mow teh lawn)
The idea is a park, or someones property somewhere with room potties etc., a day trip war, instead fo feat we all travel to a restraunt.
so far my back yard, and Euels land have both come up as ideas, Richards land is no ataivlable again this summer.
The whole idea is quick dirty, and easy. Go someplace with all teh infrastructer in place, that's free, everyoen day trip to fight, then go home.
(be nice if folks could still throw up a tent if they want to sleep there)
There are alot of open weekends this summer.
You guys interested?

Re: Spearweasels "mini war' idea.
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 4:25 PMI'll see most of you at Ffynnon-Gath this Sunday, and we can discuss the idea then. To restate things:
My original concept was Bryn Gwlad vs. Bjornsborg, to be honest. As a test run, I think it would be fun to just pick a town somewhere near I-35 as the "disputed territory", find an appropriate city park and reserve it, and then both sides just show up and have a big fun battle or two. Bastrop, New Braunfels, something like that. Not San Marcos, as Ffynnon-Gath already owns that. For example, suppose that Baron Avery decides that Bryn Gwlad should be benefiting from the revenue generated by the watermills on the river there, rather than Bjornsborg. He then issues a formal challenge, demanding that they pay up. Bjornsborg of course rejects this, as it is part of their natural domain. So, Bryn Gwlad marches an army down there to claim it. Off camera, someone reserves part of Landa Park, and the two Barons decide that since Bjornsborg is defending their own territory, they can use ribbons to make a "wall". Thus, we can get a field battle AND a castle battle. No court, no formal proceedings - just the usual greetings, assignment of marshals and organizing water bearers and such.
The end goal is this: Day trip wars for those of us who cannot make Pennsic, Gothic, Gulf, or other wars. Central Texas offers a nice arena between Houston, SA, Austin, and DFW of towns and groups that are not more than a couple of hours away from some SCA group. We should be exploiting that for a constant stream of low-level/low overhead/low infrastructure afternoon battles, and as far as I can tell we aren't. I often have trouble making the long weekend events, but I almost always have free weekend days - tourneys always involve a lot of standing around, listening to heralds, then a short fight or two. Battles are big and messy and fun - I prefer them more. If there is a story attached to the fighting, so much the better! -

Wed, June 18, 2008 - 8:10 PMYou should save up your money and time off, just for Gothic Wars, every year. My company is afraid to not let me off for Gothic.

Re: Spearweasels "mini war' idea.
Fri, June 20, 2008 - 9:37 AMThere used to be a common area park that was used for this purpose quite often, back in the olden days.
I cannot remember the name of the park, we called it "Dead Cow Creek" because one time we went there there was a dead cow in the creek.
Another name was the "Makloth Woods".
We would fight over who had possession of San Marcos and New Braunfels. No groups there at the time.

Re: Spearweasels "mini war' idea.
Fri, June 20, 2008 - 1:30 PMI'm all for it. And I wouldn't mind hosting the battle in San Marcos either. Less drive for us! New Braunfels belongs to FGath by the way... So...they'd still be invading on our land. I'm pretty sure we could take both their armies anyway, so bring it on! --e -

Re: Spearweasels "mini war' idea.
Fri, June 20, 2008 - 4:32 PMOh, well, then maybe we should work out some sort of convoluted storyline about the meddling of foreign Barons in the lovely shire of Ffynnon-Gath or something. That could be fun. -

Chiang, not a foreign Baron

Re: Spearweasels "mini war' idea.
Thu, June 19, 2008 - 11:01 PMThis sounds awesome. I would love to see this take shape- it would be really cool to have several of these mini battles over the summer since the cost of gas and everything else has gotten so ridiculously high. It would be easier on the kiddos too. -

Fri, June 20, 2008 - 9:07 AMIts sooo on!...
Sunday morning after Evets knighting, the BG war company came into Rhoadd-land and called us out, so we still owe those guys.
...unless you count the whupping we gave them in melee practice that morning as payback. ;-)
